PAITA, Peru – If you’re looking for a beach where there is no many people, noise, and scree, this is one convenient choice for you. Just 10 minutes by car from
Paita City, Cangrejos offers two miles of sand, sea, and a silence broken by the waves, some vehicles, and a little music that some people have brought from the city.

Aside it, the space is ideal for who seek to walk, meditate, take a sunbath, or break certain conventionalism about how to enjoy at the beach – to feel really free. Arriving is simple. First, get to Paita, then take the road to Yasila, and just before this, there is a sign that marks the detour to Cangrejos through the unasphalted way.

Follow the arrow direction and less than a minute, you’ll get to this place , that was not widely predated for some reason, although there is sporadic traces of pollution on the sand like dishes, cups, or spoons.

If you have no own transportation, there is a cars & trucks service that departure from Paita store market and charge between 1.20 to 1.50 dollars, depending on the demand. But as Cangrejos is not too requested like the nearby Yasila, it’s easiest to find a car to go instead of to return, and it’s probable you have to walk half-an-hour to Yasila for finding transportation, although in front of the entrance sign it’s also possible to get a car to return.

Still wild

One of the waitresses who work in the only restaurant right there tells us the beach’s name is attributed to the crustaceans colony which main worry is to decorate the place with little mud balls as they are drilling their nests. If there are no bathers, they can be seen upholstering the rim, focused on that job.

Cangrejos forms a Little bay which southern side has a little cave that is part of a cliffs range those surround the place and go inside the sea. If the tide rrises –a common phenomenon here—, it’s better not to adventure. This beach also has one of the strongest wavings through the year so if you don’t know to swim, it’s better not going beyond the rim. The lifeguard service is only available on summer Sundays – it’s not the rest of the days.

It’s better camping

Right now, there is one only hotel in the zone where, if the owner is well-humored, there is an available room, although it also has bungalows. The advantage is you are protected from the elements. The disadvantage is the mosquitoes colonies, coming out from who knows where, will make your dreams as a nightmare. Other negative aspect of the hostel is the inexistence of running water in spite of having good bathrooms.

So, the charged Price (about 10 dollars per person) is not fair to the attention quality that somebody expects. The same happens to the restaurant – high price, not extraordinary taste, tiny portions. Perhaps, that’s the reason why some people prefer to camp, but be sure to carry all your groceries including the water.

There is a Little town full of beach houses, but they are almost ever empty, so if you neet their owners, you can have another shelter choice.

Don’t miss to do…

  • An interesting phenomenon to see is how the sand gathers fastly, especially next to some buildings, so it’s often necessary to remove it with a mechanical shovel to avoid it pretty threaten the structures.
  • As we said before, swimming only if you have a certified experience. Aside it, it’s posible to do all the individual or group sports you like because the place is pretty wide.
  • The fact it doesn’t have too much urbanization makes it a fresh beach, because of the breeze has no obstacles. However, take care of the Sun because there is no natural barrier against the radiation.
  • Lovers of the photography and any kind of arts have a right inspiration landmark and not so far away a big city, like Paita, or the road.
  • As nobody disturbs, you’ll feel happy, and the weekdays much more. It’s already another story any summer Sunday.

Then, if you don’t go where the people go, Cangrejos is a beach you must not miss to consider. Look and comment more pictures on our Facebook account.
