🌎 The Climate Eye of Piura: What Can a Weather Radar See from Northern Peru?

Imagen
PIURA CITY, Peru – A 26-meter tower has risen at kilometer 5.5 of the Piura–Sullana highway . At first glance, it looks like a giant white dome perched on scaffolding. But this isn’t just infrastructure—it’s a climate sentinel . A newly installed weather radar now watches the skies, scanning for storms , rainfall , and wind patterns in real time.   And what it sees could help us understand not just local weather , but global climate phenomena like El Niño and La Niña .   🛰️ What Can This Radar Actually See? The radar system is a C250P Dual-Polarimetric Doppler Radar , built by Advanced Radar Company in Boulder, Colorado. It operates in the C-band, ideal for detecting precipitation and wind fields with high precision.   With a detection range of up to 400 km, and an operational sweep of 200 km, it covers a vast and diverse region: Direction Reach Key Areas North To the Ecuadorian borde...

Tambograndé-Chulucanas Road – The bridges never built

Imagen
It’s a key axis joining agriculture and commerce, until summer rains become it impassable.   By Nelson Peñaherrera Castillo   Overload in San Francisco Creek, between Sectors Palominos and Malingas (Tambograndé District) during a rainy summer. (Photos by David Dominguez / El tambograndino Noticias / file).   Tambograndé-Chulucanas Road is a show anytime through the year. The sky can be white, gray, light blue sky with a burning Sun. But on the land, dismissing the black asphalt, all green tones dance in a messy, tender choreography. Officially, the PI-107 way is 27 miles counted from óvalo del Campesino (Farmer’s Circus), Tambograndé City ( Piura Province ), toOrozco Falla Park, Chulucanas City ( Morropón Province ). Many applications calculate the trip takes about 50 minutes as much, of course, if you go on your own transportation. The rest of mortals must be two transshipment at least. The first one in Malingas , 9 miles and 17 minutes tripping. The s...
