How is the textile industry in Piura?

PIURA CITY, Peru – It seems to grow at a regional level but it could not be well-ranked at a national level. That could be in brief the actual condition of textile industry in Piura, an activity that could represent 28% of the grossdomestic product (GDP) of the region, but which occupies the fourth place nationwide under Lima, La Libertad, and Lambayeque, as the Industrial Confectioners Association of Piura (Adecip, as in Spanish)’s president Martín Purizaca has recognized so.

One of the causes, according to the official, is the textile is better organized in those territories, so the association looks for empowering skills through a seminar that has been scheduled for May 22nd and a fair for 24th and 25th, when they are going to learn new confection techniques until applying automation in the process.

Adecip was created on September 14th, 2012. Currently, it has 60 members and 200 formal production workshops. Until today, it has participated in different national and international fairs – it also has received technical assistance from the Peruvian government and funding from the European Union.
