Communications students perpetuate the beauty of Piura Monumental Zone.   Photographs Courtesy UPAO/DDC Piura.   PIURA CITY, Peru – How many times have you taken the time to go up this city but looking to explore beauty? Modern times are updating the face to the department’s capital – it doesn’t mean it’s printing identity . It would be convenient. However amid the contemporary, it still remains in the walls and public walks those strips that made the city of eternal heat like a lovely location that inspired big plays of Peruvian literature, classic waltzes of the national song archive too. Piura’s Descentralized Direction of Culture ( DDC Piura ) thinks one way to keep that legacy is through the divulgation of that patrimony, so promoting development . Yes, it’s possible. It’s called making it worthy . That’s why it  has been allied strategically to the Communications Programme of Piura’s Antenor Orrego Private University (UPAO Piura, as in Spanish). Bot...

By Diego Mauricio (Regional Network of Water and Environment)       PIURA CITY, Peru – The Ministry of environment recognized in 2008the economic importance of the Andean páramos for the population depending on this ecosystem. That entitty’s former Natural Resources manager Walter Huamani affirmed that “we recognize that [the páramos] historically do have an economic value and the communities located at the highlands ever used it and know of that value.”   “If they don’t know of bank accounts, that is another issue, but they know [the páramos] have a value, and they use it and they live from it. The Sullana-native actor has a successful adaptation of a Latin-American classic amid his highlights, and bringing that art inside his hometown.   By Nelson         Peñaherrera Castillo   Every word has power. I’m not talking about divinity, neither metaphysics. If you can read aloud the first sentence of this paragraph, and you can vary the tone or the intention, it’s possible you notice it. It’s better if you are alone, not to avoid others doubt on your mental balance but learning to hear yourself in the silence, and discovering what your communication skill is. That is what the Sullana-native actor Nerit Olaya Guerrero (1958) is doing.   Once upon a Good day, after reading again the Uruguayan writer Mario Benedetti (Paso de los Toros, Sep. 14, 1920 – Montevideo, May 17, 2009), he conceived a play based upon his novel The Truce (1960), that tells the story of a retired man who loses his wife and builds a new relati...

Tunal Petroglyphs

Imagen
A Catholic cemetery keeps a… pantheistic shrine? By Nelson Peñaherrera . Photos by Alesban López .   SAPILLICA , Peru – “Cachirís Mount is straight there and Pilán Mount is mostly on the right,” Sapillica [pronounce “Sapijicah”] District Municipality’s Alesban López points me out, whom I am riding a motorcycle again , on our way to Tunal, 37 km away the southwest of the district capital. A local told him there are rocks “pretty identical” to those he featured on his Facebook account . We have to go down from Sapillica town until Timbes [pronounce “Timbehs”], then climbing up until 1617 meters altitude according to the GPS ( global positioning system ) device the crew carries within.   An hour 20 minutes, at least on motorcycle, by the west flank of Andean Western Range, viewing the coast along the full trail. In Tunal, we are on the spine of the mountain, the rocks are so little (1,5 meters by si, approximately) those just could carve one petroglyph per each one...
