The New Piura

Imagen
The functional vision and mission of a less vulnerable city before El Niño.  By Julio ernesto Gianella *   PIURA CITY, Peru - The knowledge we have not assimilated from Pre-Hispanic people is the urban planning. The best proof is  that many of the cities built in the past  are still there despite the natural disasters  and the time lapse.  The city of Caral ( Supe , Lima ), the most ancient of South America, was wisely built and it has not suffered from floods , Nature's onslaugths  neither, in 5000 years of existence. The virtue of urban planning is upon the balance between the what we want and what we can. If it has no contribution  of the vision  and the wishes on a better future, we stay trapped into more of the same; in the other hand,  if  it exceeds in futurist dreams, it crashes into the reality and detracts. That is why the main basis of the Piura's future planning must be the non-vulnerability before the nat...

The importance of birds at the Chira Valley

Imagen
Written and photographed by Kevin Jiménez González   SULLANA, Peru – The Chira Valley is an area of cultural importance – there are archaeological evidences those give to know it so. Its Pre-Hispanic importance is countersigned in the Spanish chronicles of Agustín de Zárate and Pedro Cieza de León. Its natural resources are abundant, the birds highlighting. It’s not a gamble that Baltasar Martínez de Compañón , who created El principé, actual Sullana City , published a watercolors volume dedicated to birds two centuries ago, after going through the Peruvian Northern and overall after going through the Chira Valley.   The birds are around the globe, they own a diversity of colors, sizes, tweets, quills, types of flying, and they are overall in the imaginery of the human being. One example of that is the Andean condor ( Vultur gryphus ) , the being that carries the soul to the eternity after the death. Plus, the birds are making and joining one of the main natural processes o...

The crown's on its way

The so-called king of the desert doesn't expand all its majesty yet.  It is considered as the emblematic tree of Piura  Department's Coast -it normally doesn't grow over than 1650 feet altitude- and it is supposed the Spaniards found it here dominating the landscape when they arrived here in 1532.  The conquerors fastly related it to the European carob tree ( Ceratonia siliqua ), then assigned that name to the species that locals called tahko , according to a Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)'s research , although some archeologists asked by FACTORTIERRA doubt about that theory. the carob word, actually, has Arabic roots - alarrooba , coming from Persian alarroob what means donkey's jaw, curiously the animal that consumes it a lot and never stops to chew it here in Piura.  However, the word describes the European species, apparently not related genetically to South American one, the Prosopis pallida actually. “sembrando Vidas” – Guillermo Checa wants to become Piura much green

This environmental activist looks for his organization to be a world reference of reforestation.   Photographs and video provided by Guillermo Checa , distributed by FACTORTIERRA.     PIURA CITY, Peru – World forecasts about climate change are not good. All points out the humankind is accelerating the global warming as it’s stated a recent scientific consensus expressed in the so-called doomsday clock located in Chicago, Illinois.   It’s considered that planting trees could make a difference and gain time in favor of every alive being.   The key is inside two processes any tree makes – evapotranspiration and gas interchange . The first one consists in releasing the water that every vegetable consumes up to the air, turning it in steam. The second one means to converse the existent carbon dioxide around the atmosphere in oxygen . Add the shadow to this, especially at the cities.   Warming down Some sources suggest that an arb...

Two girls and two boys who don’t look like anything found a space in the music to sound like one.   By Nelson Peñaherrera Castillo . Photographs & videos provided by Telón de Boca .   PIURA CITY, Peru – We live almost unconsciousness into a polyphonic world. If we fit to the etimology –multiple sounds —it’s enough to get out to the street, and if we focus in what we hear, we’ll notice not all has similar tone and intensity. The problem is those sounds are not combined, they don’t have the purpose to set up like a pretty sequence to the ear. That’s why we end to experience noise, probably a stress episode that will bring us to get inside our home looking for urgent relaxation. The polyphony in the music is all the opposite, for sure, Inside the same melody we go listening to, the sounds don’t own an equal tone but all set up as good as the ear feels caressed as well as it’s able to raise the alert levels of the brain not in distress but working the same, or bet...
