The plan is providing, gradually along 2024, additional 65 million cubic meters to Poechos Reservoir, the largest of Peru.   LANCONÉS, Peru – Chira-Piura Special Project (PECHP by its initials in Spanish) plans to rise the operation height of Poechos Reservoir, the largest of Peru, until 105.5 meters (346.2 feet) altitude along 2024. In that sense, it will evaluate, based upon a filling plan, to take the decision for holding that height as the top operation level in the next years.   This Will allow Poechos to increase about 65 million cubic meters  (17 million gallons) of water not making an additional investment in infrastructure, built initially in 1972 and started in 1976, to store until 1 billion cubic meters. Because of sedimentation, this capability has been reduced in 55%.   The procedure was announced by PECHP’s President Victor Garrido Lecca Ramos, after holding coordination meetings with the National authority of Water’s (Ana, by its initials i...

Recycled Water

What disgusts can turn into what fertilizes.  SULLANA, Peru - While many people continue to see the residual water of the hydrobiological industry, disgusted and annoyed, quite few assume it as the raw material for obtaining an organic fertilizer without toxicity, with a high benefit for the crops where it is applied, plus can recuperate agriculturally overexploited soils or fertilizing  the ones with possibilities to enlarge the agricultural frontier. The discomfort is presented among the people and some authorities because the industry continues to use the urban sewerage for undoing the called effluents or residual water gotten after the whole process, so the Chira River continues to be polluted despite a treatment plant still postponing while bureaucratic details are adjusted between the Peruvian government and the municipal administration of Sullana Province . Until then, one solution is not pouring the effluents into the sewerage but bringing them to Gestió...

The relationship between Piura City and the water has not been one of the most positive, misunderstandings are older than its Spanish foundation.  By Nelson Peñaherrera   PIURA CITY , Peru - It is supposed that Francisco Pizarro founded San Miguel on August 15th, 1532, becoming the first Spanish Empire's city in South America, locating  it over the Tallan [pronounce "Tajahn"]  town of Tangarara, actual Marcavelica District, just beside Chira (then Turicarami in Tallan language) River.  What promised to be a productive convivence -the soil was pretty fertile- turned disease soon. Malaria decimated the immigrant population, that decided to move away the river . In 1534, it went about 50 miles SE of Tangarará, next to Pilán Mount, Monte de los Padres Acres and Las Damas Creek, actual La Matanza District. Although Lengash River ran nearby,  the city did not located beside this time. It could be renamed as Piura (supposedly from quechuan "Pir...
